Connecting Proven Skills With WA Businesses

Finding the right person isn't always about finding someone who has done the exact same job before.

Sometimes, it's about recognising the skills they already have.

Current and former Australian Defence Force personnel bring experience in leadership, teamwork, safety, operations, logistics, technical environments, problem-solving and working under pressure. But those capabilities don't always translate neatly into civilian job titles or resumes.

RSL WA Workforce Connect helps bridge that gap.

The service connects Western Australian employers with transitioning ADF personnel, veterans and veteran family members looking for meaningful employment, while helping businesses recognise the valuable and highly transferable skills developed through Defence experience.

For employers, that means access to pre-screened, job-ready candidates and a recruitment partner that takes the time to understand the business, workplace culture and role before making an introduction.

For candidates, it means personalised support to translate their experience, identify career opportunities, develop their skills and take the next step towards a sustainable civilian career.

Supporting WA's Future Workforce

Veteran employment isn't only about supporting those who have served. It also represents an opportunity for Western Australian industry.

Defence personnel develop capabilities in environments where teamwork, accountability, safety, adaptability and performance matter every day.

Those skills can translate across industries including:

  • Defence and security
  • mining, resources and energy
  • trades and construction
  • manufacturing
  • transport and logistics
  • engineering and technical services
  • healthcare and emergency services
  • technology, ICT and cyber security
  • administration and business support
  • finance and professional services

By connecting Defence experience with civilian industry, RSL WA Workforce Connect helps create better employment outcomes for veterans and their families while giving WA businesses another pathway to capable, experienced talent.

About Us

Connecting those who served with those who value service

RSL WA Workforce Connect is the dedicated employment, education and career support service of RSL WA.

Created for current serving ADF members, transitioning personnel, veterans and their families, Workforce Connect provides personalised support to help individuals navigate career transitions and build meaningful futures beyond Defence.

Transition looks different for everyone.

For some, the next step is finding employment. For others, it may mean exploring a completely new career, gaining civilian qualifications, developing job-ready skills, building confidence or understanding how years of military experience translate into the civilian workforce.

Workforce Connect provides end-to-end support designed around the individual, while working closely with employers, training providers and industry partners to create genuine employment opportunities across Western Australia.

For Employers

Access skilled, job-ready veteran talent

The right candidate for your business may already have the skills you need, even if their previous job title looks completely different.

Workforce Connect helps WA employers access pre-screened candidates from the veteran and Defence community and understand how military experience can translate into valuable civilian workforce capability.

Every candidate referred to an employer is assessed for their skills, experience and suitability before an introduction is made.

Rather than simply matching resumes with vacancies, the Workforce Connect team takes the time to understand your organisation, workplace culture and specific hiring requirements.

Employer support can include:

  • access to pre-screened, job-ready candidates
  • tailored candidate matching
  • veteran recruitment and workforce pipeline development
  • Defence industry workforce transition programs
  • support for veteran employment initiatives
  • flexible recruitment arrangements
  • industry and employment engagement opportunities
  • ongoing support following placement

Workforce Connect remains involved after a candidate has been hired, helping support a successful transition for both the employer and employee.

As a not-for-profit service, partnership revenue is reinvested into veteran employment initiatives, transition support and training opportunities delivered through RSL WA.

Training and Career Pathways

Sometimes the experience is already there. What's missing is the civilian qualification, licence or ticket that allows an employer to recognise it.

Workforce Connect helps eligible candidates identify training and education pathways that can formalise existing capabilities or prepare them for opportunities in new industries.

This can include access to industry-relevant training and tickets such as First Aid, White Card and HR licences, depending on individual career goals and available programs.
