About Us

Tianqi Lithium is a leading investor in the Western Australian lithium industry

Western Australia’s first battery-grade lithium hydroxide was produced in May 2022 at our processing plant in the Kwinana Industrial Area, south of Perth, for supply to global customers producing rechargeable batteries for the electric vehicle and energy storage system industries.

Battery-grade lithium for a low-carbon economy

Our customers need high-purity battery-grade lithium hydroxide that is of consistent quality to ensure the performance and safety of their electric vehicles and renewable energy storage batteries. Our substantial investments in the Kwinana Lithium Hydroxide Refinery and Greenbushes Lithium Mine are key to our ability to deliver for our customers.

Kwinana Lithium Hydroxide Refinery

Our fully automated Kwinana Lithium Hydroxide Refinery is one of the biggest and most advanced lithium processing plants in the world. It is a cutting-edge operation that has been built to meet the exacting battery-grade specifications that our customers require today and will need in the future.

The first of our production trains at Kwinana was completed in 2022. Each train can produce 24,000 tonnes of battery-grade lithium hydroxide per year. We have plans for up to four trains with each producing enough lithium hydroxide to power over 520,000 electric vehicles each and every year for the life of the refinery.

Our Kwinana refinery is a continuous production plant. As we are continually producing, we can maintain the high purity and consistency levels that our customers expect from us.

The Kwinana Lithium Hydroxide Refinery is located 210km from the Talison Lithium Mine.
